The Brief

The interiors should evoke a sense of lightness and freshness, but remain cosy and homely too.

A favourite Artwork of the client’s dictated the colour palette of warm reds, ochres and rusts and served as a focal point sitting proud above the fireplace and new joinery.

While the cottage facade and era of the home are beloved, there was a desire to modernise the overall look and feel inside.

It was also important for the three children to adore their bedroom, with additional storage space provided where possible.

The Spaces

Formal Lounge

This home had two living rooms. It was decided that one space would serve the busy family life of the three kids and to house the TV. The other would become a formal lounge; free of technology and focus on a contemplative space for adults to sit of an evening with a good book and nice bottle of wine by the fire.

We developed a colour palette derived from the Bromley feature art. Warm ochres, rusts and saffron tones were imbedded into highly textured soft furnishings and furniture materials. The addition of joinery around the fireplace and timber shelving in between and the application of VJ wall panelling, worked with the weatherboard cottage exterior and provided balance.

Traditional shaker profile for the joinery was offset with the introduction of contemporary marble and brass hardware.

Dining room

Located in the centre of the home and acting as a thoroughfare between spaces, meant furniture selection was meticulously selected. The dining table needed to be substantial but narrow at the same time. It also had to provide sufficient seating when family and friends visited.

So as to not overwhelm the spatial restrictions of the room, chosen pieces needed to appear “visually lite in weight.” Oak chairs with sea through rattan backs and slender chair legs were selected to achieve this feeling, further enhanced by delicate styling.

Boys Bedroom

Spatial planning in this room was the biggest factor to consider. The room was to ideally house two beds, a small wardrobe, a desk for homework and a play space, while at the same time leaving the window and bedroom door location unchanged. It was a challenge. We love that 😉

Our best friend was height, so we designed the joinery to take full advantage of the generous vertical proportions. This enabled us to retain the full window and tuck a wardrobe around the corner of the double custom bunk.

A large custom chest of drawers was used on the opposite wall and under bed storage meant this space packed a punch in terms of using every mm.

Additional wall mounted shelving above the desk and floor space completed the brief and the boys couldn’t be happier.

Mudwall in the Entry

Extra storage is always welcomed with a young family and a great investment for the future sale of any home.

With 3 young boys we needed a space to house sporting items, shoes and general day to day belongings. So a wall to wall and floor to ceiling custom designed mudwall was installed.

We included internal powerpoints throughout for additional functions i.e. charging smart devices and appliances such as vacuum cleaners.

“‘As a time poor professional, it was really helpful that Jen was able to take the stress out of redesigning the interior of my home. After carefully assessing what style of home I wanted her to create, Jen organised all of the purchases and coordinated all of the different trades using the connections she had built up over many years in the industry.

The final product she delivered is an interior designed by her but tailored specifically to suit my style and taste. I finally have the home that I want to come home to at the end of a busy day.”
