The Space

This small space served both as a workshop for the picture framing and manufacturing side of the business and a retail space that sold furniture and homewares products.

Being an art studio, it was integral to keep the palette bright, fresh and as neutral as possible. This was so art would remain the focal point and that staff were able to accurately consult on colours and products for each custom piece.

The space was gutted to a concrete shell and rebuilt from the ground up.

The dimensions were tight at only 6m x 6m, so height was our best friend. Old ceiling tiles and framework were completely removed to gain an additional 750mm of extra vertical space. We then sprayed the ceiling black and suspended track lighting which in turn made the ceiling appear like it went on for ever.

Custom joinery and furniture pieces were designed to ensure clear paths of travel and a funcitional workspace for the staff.

White pressed tin panelling and soft  textural wallpaper were applied to walls to soften the space and create visual interest.

Timber floorboards were added for commercial durability and to provide visual warmth within the colour palette.

“I loved working on this project. It’s always a challenge for multi purpose spaces and especially ones on the smaller side. The interior now looks aesthetically beautiful and functions well for both key aspects of the business. I couldn’t be happier.”
